7 Quick Takes- not a single rant!!!!

Alright, here's the 411, today, I am liking up with Camp Patton for 7 Quick Takes, because Jen at Conversion Diary had her baby. Shoot some prayers her way, the little guy is rockin' it out in the NICU and everyone could probably use some prayers.

Debated putting this one here or not, but decided to go for it!  Tell me what you know about, elevated alpha fetoprotein?  Who's had experience with it?  How'd it work out? 'The google' is helpful, you guys will be more helpful.

So, Aaron Christopher II now grabs my face when he gives me kisses.  Are you kidding me?  Plus, I had this really freaky experience where I was snuggling with him the other day and was like, 'I cannot believe he is two years old!'.  You see, I don't dig the baby phase, I have been waiting to get out of it.  We finally are with lil' A, it's so cool to be able to really play/talk/etc... with him.  But, it happened, just like all of you said it would.  I looked at him and thought, 'this is going by way too fast'.  Which is pretty amazing, because, no joke, I'm the mom that prays the baby phase speeds up!

I am presenting this weekend at a Youth and Young Adult Gathering for the AOD.  Super excited, but am hoping to do a really good job.  If you wouldn't mind saying a prayer or two, I would really appreciate it.
--- 4 ---
The Wilkerson clan is going to the DC area to see my brother...yikes!  We'll be lap-flying with both of the boys and then renting a car when we get there. I keep asking for prayers, but I shall ask for one more, pray for the intercession of the good ol' St. Christopher that travel goes smooth and the husband and I play nice :)

So, 'Husband of the Year' award.  This week has been really busy, but on top of the busy, the pregnancy sickness has reared it's ugly head in full force.  The wee hours of the morning have been the worst, which leaves me in a zombie like state at 6:00-6:30 am when the boys wake up.  Big A has been getting up with them, feeding them and letting me sleep in till 7:30-8:00 am.  It is making a significant difference.  He rocks.

Are we about to get through 7 Quick Takes without me ranting about a single thing?  It appears so!

So, Colleen at Martin Family Moments is always raving about Catholic Schools and how great they have been for her family.  I think some of it is starting to stick. I was driving the other day and passed a public school bus with kids getting off and thought to myself, 'man, I would really like to send our kids to Catholic Schools'. I called the husband and asked if we could 'put it on the table' (we still have three years before we even need to worry about this).  And he said, 'we can put it on the corner of the table' and I said, 'I appreciate that'.  But then, a few hours later, he contacted me and decided that in July, when we are finally out of debt, we are going to make a budget line for Catholic Schools. So, we will spend the next three years saving for them, which should guarantee lil' Aaron Kindergarten and First Grade, and Joey, Kindergarten.  Then, we will see how Big A's career progresses, what we are able to save, etc...and take it year by year.  I am psyched.

For more Quick Takes, check out, 'Camp Patton' who is hosting for  Conversion Diary!

  1. Prayers for travel, Catholic school funds and that little A never stops grabbing your face when he kisses you.

  2. Yay for Catholic schools!! You guys are such great planners/savers. And we're going to be near DC starting tomorrow. We're even going to try to head into DC to go to some museums and the zoo. How long are you there for?

  3. Good for you on the schools! Prayers for discernment and all that. Let me know if you'd like me to ask around on the AFP thing. I'm in a few birth professionals groups and it would be easy to get some feedback. Have fun on your trip! I'm sure it'll be great!

  4. Short story: My AFP was elevated and everything was fine.

Just email me and we can discuss more if you want :) I remember the feeling and it's scary but there are a lot of factors that can affect it

  5. Ah, DC in the spring! Enjoy and have fun here!!

Catholic schools . . . .they are EXPENSIVE here and even with my hubby's decent salary there is NO WAY we could afford them. And we are Dave Ramsey followers. But, it is obivous, now, that God meant us to homeschool.

    1. Ha! True story. We figure, if we were crazy and took 4 kids through K-8, it would be around a 100,000 investment! YIKES! That is why I think we are going to take it one year at a time and feel it out.

    2. Mary-

I did not mean anything by the Dave Ramsey comment . . . I was just thinking after the 6 momths in savings, saving for the cars that we will need in the future, home repairs, trying to pay off the house early, retirement, etc, there is no way we can afford Catholic Schools here. Yet, if we did not do any of those things, we probably could swing it and have nothing in the bank and nothing to live on when Pete retires.

Plus, after working at a certain all girls Catholic School, I was left a bit jaded!

    3. RIGHT?!?!? It is so funny you said that. Because of that certain school, I had pretty much crossed Catholic schools off of our list. But, I have been hearing some good things about a few (obviously, we will check them out when the time comes) in our area, and every time Colleen posts, I want that for my kids. I have ALWAYS maintained it is WAY better to send your kids to a public school than to send them to a Catholic school in name only, or, worse, send them to a Catholic school that is actually pretty anti-Catholic. Can I tell you a heartbreaking thing that you would completely get. So many alumni of that school (not all) that graduated from that school are the most anti-Catholic people on facebook. It's so sad. I am probably going to hell because I am so thankful that Jesus promised a millstone for those that lead the sheep away. It is SUCH an injustice.
I took no offense by the Dave comment! HA! My husband and I, when we were calculating the costs almost died at how much it would cost to send our kids, especially considering with the first three there won't be a 'break' in grades to give us some relief! :)

    4. Gosh, I don't even have kids and I struggle with this same issue. I loved my 15--yes 15!-years of Catholic school education and always wanted that for my children. I loved everything about it. But, the older I get and the more I see some of my former classmates becoming more and more anti-Catholic, it scares me. Of course, this is not the case with most of them, but it is heart-breaking nonetheless. Seeing as we live in the same area, Mary, I have to ask--what is the anti-Catholic all girls school? (I have a guess, just wanted to clarify so I never send my daughters there!)

  6. I'm impressed with #7. We are struggling with this one b/c our kids' school is great, but the work is not challenging enough for one little girl. Meanwhile our public schools would challenge her more, but culturally...you get it. We are staring down the barrel of the home school challenge once again. God, have mercy on me!

  7. Ok, I don't even know what #1 is, sorry. :( I'm totally with you on the post-baby phase for the most part now. In fact, the words "I can't wait for the kids to be a little old" escaped my lips last night. But then I look at them or hold them, and I miss the calm snuggly days. I do heart the hands on face kisses or the handholding which is new with Li'l G.

Praying for you in all things, friend!
